Debuts
My new music project, Terrazzo, has our debut show on Tuesday. It comes almost exactly a year after I submitted a classified ad looking for bandmates. The band slowly came together in the following months after printing flyers, joining “music tinder”, holding bassist auditions, and emailing strangers fledgling practice recordings.
I’ll admit it was validating to find strangers interested in joining my band based on scrappy phone recordings and silly flyers. It wasn’t until May 2025 that we became a nameless five-piece band with a sporadic practice schedule. In the summer we started developing a setlist in earnest with hopes of playing live shows.
It turns out it is very difficult to coordinate band practice for five individuals living in five different neighborhoods in Brooklyn. We eventually figured it out as fall creeped in, our hearts set on booking a show. My bandmate, Matthew, did much of the heavy lifting when it came to organizing our debut.
Now the show is right around the corner, and we want to see you there! This will be my first show with a full band in nearly nine years. I’ve been planning and working hard to make it a special show. Spread the word to your NYC friends.
Debuts are special because you only get one. I released my debut record for my solo project in the thick of grad school, quietly and without much celebration. But debuts are a major cause for celebration. Businesses have grand openings, new buildings get ribbon cutting ceremonies, and records get release parties. I’m in the mood for a party—come celebrate with us!
